Musicology after Beethoven  XVII International Congress of the German Musicological Society (GfM) . 28 September – 1 October 2021.  Second Call for Papers Following the Postponement of the Congress.

 Due to the Sars-CoV-2 pandemic outbreak at the beginning of 2020, the XVII International Congress of the Society for Music Research originally planned for September 2020 had to be postponed. On invitation of the Department of Musicology/Sound Studies of the University of Bonn and the Beethoven Archive of the Beethoven-Haus Bonn, it will now take place in Bonn from September 28 to October 1 2021. Already accepted papers will be part of the programme of the postponed congress, which will have the same motto “Musicology after Beethoven”.

 However, in order to take into account the actuality of research and scholarship, with this second Call for Papers we are opening the programme for additional contributions. It remains our concern that the Bonn Congress should offer a platform for the entire diversity of the discipline, international exchange and professional self-reflection beyond Beethoven and the “Beethoven Paradigm”. Contributions dealing with the massive impact of the pandemic on musical culture are therefore just as welcome as contributions on musical cultures beyond the Beethoven anniversary, for example in the field of popular music studies and sound studies.

 All colleagues from musicology and related disciplines are once again cordially invited to contribute to the congress program. Possible formats are:

 • Free papers (20 min. + 10 min. discussion)

 • Study group session (90. min., 120 min. or 180 min.)

 • Free session (90. min., 120 min. or 180 min.)

 • Roundtable (90. min.)

 • Poster presentation

 • Presentation of research projects (30 min. or 45 min.)

 Congress languages are German and English. Abstracts can be submitted in both languages and cover any research area of musicology.

 Please submit your proposals by 31 January 2021 via the conference website (www.gfm2020.uni-bonn.de). The conference management will be supported by a scientific advisory board in the selection of the programme. Submissions are only possible via ConfTool. The results of the review of the submitted abstracts are expected to be announced in April 2021.
